Android 2.3.5 for Motorola Droid Getting New Updates

Android 2.3.5 update seems will be popular right now, after last month Nexus S 4G officially receiving this latest gingerbread update. Now 2.3.5 update also coming to Motorola Droid and Samsung Galaxy S II and yes this isn’t official release, this ROM mostly from a stock AOSP build. Pete Alfonso who develop this update for Motorola Droid has release his latest build GPA17, you will have Android 2.3.5 this also will update device kernel to 2.6.32.43 when you install this update. This GPA17 nightly build still has several bugs, when Pete fixing SD card bug he encountered another bug which causing random reboots when trying to activate airplane mode, so he will reverting to the previous kernel.

This gingerbread update only available for manual download, you need to go to Pete’s beta folder and then download the latest release, the latest Android 2.3.5 software update available today is “generic_sholes-ota-eng.pete.08-02-11.zip” file size is 83 MB and build in August 2nd 2011. You can check regularly his folder to know if there’s any latest build available.

How to Install Android 2.3.5 update for Motorola Droid

Firstly, you should back up and sync your contact, apps, etc as this update will wipe all your phone data. After download the file copy it to your phone SD card, boot in to recovery mode via ROM manager, backup if needed and then install software update file. Don’t be afraid to install Beta release if it’s failed then you know these update not good for you, till now I can’t find someone reported their smartphone brick after installing Android 2.3.5 for Motorola Droid.
