Motorola seems to hold off to announces any device that will get updates to Ice Cream Sandwich besides Droid Razr, Xoom and Bionic (Official ICS update for Atrix 2 have been announced by Motorola). However, if you can’t wait experience an ICS update running on Motorola Atrix 2, you can try to install a custom ROM such as CyanogenMod 9 or another AOSP ROM, thanks to a devs with username lfaber06 from XDA who ported CM 9 which based Android 4.0 to our android phone, this ROM is still in near-alpha stage and is suitable for advanced users or developers only. Some features mentioned to be working such as WiFi and some applications, but Android Market, calling, SMS and MMS still can’t work.

Likely for security reasons this ROM needs to be installed through the Safestrap, safestrap itself is recovery / bootstrap for devices that has locked bootloader. The rationale is to protect the primary file system that contains the stock Moto firmware, it means your file systems partitioned into two (stock file system that contains the original Moto firmware and safestrap). When safetrap enabled the original file system will be temporarily disabled, and then you can freely install / flash a custom ROM on safestrap partition and if you want to go back to stock firmware you can disable safetrap and your android phone will return to the stock firmware. Although it still can’t be used, but the devs promised to provide significant progress from this port, it seems we should be more patient. To download and update head over to this thread.
